Speaker William Lenthall not only bade the King desist but sent him packing with the immortal words: \u201CMay it please your Majesty, I have neither eyes to see nor tongue to speak in this place but as the House is pleased to direct me, whose servant I am here.\u201D To me that is the key\u2014that as Speaker I am the servant of this House. If you like, I am Parliament\u2019s person.
